Free stuff to shamelessly lure you in

To celebrate my new blog I'm giving away a $25 Amazon Gift Card and a signed copy of Under the Green Hill!

The giveaway opens now, and closes in one week. Let's say Tuesday, July 12, whenever I wake up in the morning and am coherent enough to tally entries and use random.org. Sound good? To enter, please follow my blog, and leave a comment on this post or any other post here at The Omniscient Third Person between now and July 12.

Please help me spread the word! I'll give you a bonus entry for mentioning and linking to the giveaway on your blog, facebook, or anywhere else. (Just send me the evidence, please!)

The fine print:
Amazon says the gift card can only be used at amazon.com – not amazon.ca, amazon.co,uk, or any of their other sites. So if for some reason you can't use amazon.com, please don't enter this contest. Or if you win you can always re-gift it or use it as a prize for your own contest. You can still follow me, though – I'll love you forever, plus I'll have other giveaways soon.

To get you started... tell me, what were your favorite fantasy books when you were a kid? Mine were The Chronicles of Narnia, Half Magic, the Harper Hall trilogy (which is really SF, but there are dragons and a fantasy feel), Nesbit's Psammead books... oh, and dozens more!

XO
Laura

My Favorite fantasy books were the "Wrinkle in Time" series when I was little. I didn't actually read "The Chronicles of Narina" until I was an adult but I love them too.
Congrats on the great blog!

My sister really loved your book, so I'm interested!

I loved Narnia and Madeleine L'Engle and Lloyd Alexander and Edward Eager and E. Nesbit and Robin McKinley as a kid. As an adult I also love Harry Potter and Ingrid Law and Elizabeth Bunce and Megan Whalen Turner and so many others!

Your blog looks great :) As a kid, I read A Wrinkle in Time, and all the companion books, a hundred times or more. (And I'll be honest--I still read them all the time...)

I don't remember what fantasy I read as a kid other than the first Narnia book. I was in junior high when I read Lord of the Rings and The Wizard of Earthsea though, so I will go with them. Close enough.

The Talisman, still my favorite fantasy.

Oh, and of course, my adventures in the woods with my dear friend, Laura! We enacted some good unicorn stories! Should have thought to write them down, maybe I'd be famous, too!

I love your campy candor in your title; it lured me in.

Favorite fantasy books when a child:
The Chronicles of Narnia, David Lindsay's "Voyage to Arcturus", Lovecraft's "The Dream Qeust of Unknown Kadath", and the "Wrinkle in Time" trilogy (mostly the first one, really).

My other favorites today hadn't been written then, for the most part. They include a lot by McKillip and McKinley, conveniently adjacent on the shelf, and the nearby Laurie Marks.

How could I have forgotten The Neverending Story?! I loved the movie as a kid (and had a crush on Atreyu)and I remember how thrilled I was when I finally realized it was a book too -- and that the movie only covered half of the story. I just re-read it again recently. Don't you just bawl when Artax dies?

Pema, I miss those good old days -- and you! Will you ever be in Kentucky? I'm pretty sure there is a unicorn in the woods near my house...

Just wiping a tear from my eye as you reminded me of poor Artax. Sob.
It was an amazing story and the movie version? I was totally in love with Atreyu too!! And that little girl that played the childlike Empress...she was so beautiful and well spoken, I loved the way she used to say Bastian! I need to go buy that movie!!

I love the blog!! And I love the questions you ask.

My favorite fantasy book when I was younger has to be The Hobbit. I remember the first time I read it--I was enchanted. I loved the world that JRR Tolkein created.

Unfortunately, I had a harder time with the Fellowship Trilogy--I am not sure why. It seemed like some of the lightness and ease was gone. I loved the movies however.

I read so many "Dungeon's and Dragon's" books along with "Dragon lance" that actually picking out a favorite is truly hard . As I got older I began reading Lord of the Rings and of course Harry Potter. Keep up the great work Laura.
